Lewis Hamilton Racing McLaren MercedesBefore it was revealed that Lewis Hamilton would join Formula 1 in 2007 as team mate to Fernando Alonso, who has already won two world championships, F1 commentators were split as to whether his temperament would be able to withstand the pressure of being hailed as the best young driver in F1. Up to now Lewis Hamilton is confounding all the critics, and has the necessary strength of character to handle the pressure that comes with success and the fact he is a pioneering black driver in F1 racing.

Lewis Hamilton has experienced a phenomenal debut season in F1 motor racing. The British rookie racing driver is set to become one of the all time greats in the history of Grand Prix racing as his meteoric rise continues. Lewis Hamilton has been nurtured for several years by his team McLaren and has eventually realised his dream to drive a Formula 1 car in his debut season in 2007. This is made all the more special because McLaren chief Ron Dennis has gone against the team’s normal driver recruitment policy, where they have previously only employed the services of drivers who have a proven track record in an F1 car.

The inexperienced Lewis Hamilton was given the drive partnering current world champion Fernando Alonso, a perfect learning environment for him and he has brought a breath of fresh air to British F1 motor racing. Despite a number of high profile disagreements with his team-mate Alonso, he has taken the world of F1 racing by storm in his rookie season in 2007. After finishing third in his debut race, he continued to a record-breaking 9 consecutive podium finishes in his first nine races, including 2 victories. He went on to record a total of 4 race victories, 12 podium finishes and 6 pole positions. Hamilton eventually finished the F1 Drivers Championship in second place, 2 points behind Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari. If it weren’t for a couple of errors in the last 2 races of the season, Lewis Hamilton would surely have become world champion.
